Over the past year a 10+ mile stretch of old railroad tracks has been converted into a paved trail for biking and hiking. I have been spending a good portion of this spring biking and taking photos along the trail. I usually set out around 7 or so in the morning and I am constantly amazed by the amount of wildlife I see while biking. Last week a deer nearly caused a collision with my bike. I consider myself especially lucky as a fox and her three kits have taken up residence along the trail less than a mile from my home. You can find pictures of them in the forest gallery on my website.

One piece of gear I have found extremely useful for biking is the Case Logic large lens bag. It is made to house a single large lens but I have been using it for a slightly different purpose. I can place my camera with a 300mm lens attached into the bag and strap it over my shoulder. This bag worn in this manner allows for quick and easy access to the camera while on my bike. I was able to capture some good images of turkey vultures last week because of this quick access. I was able to stop the bike, grab the camera and snap some pictures before they headed for the sky. This has become my standard setup for my morning rides. The only disadvantage is that I can only bring one lens along with me but it has been great otherwise. There is even a small amount of room in the bottom of the bag for a spare battery and memory card. It has allowed me a very enjoyable distraction while out getting exercise. If you are someone who bikes often I would definitely look into purchasing one of these bags.

Welcome to the Blandford Photography blog.
